From Grey to Green

From gray to green

In September, a youth exchange called From Grey to Green: 4 Dimensions of Sustainability took place at Frankolovo.

It was signed up, organised and carried out by a team of three (Dijana, Katja and Jošt) within the European Union; Erasmus+ programmes, with the help and support of the Veles farm - we also signed it up through Veles.

For 8 days, 23 young people from Croatia, Serbia, Italy, Slovenia and Spain joined us. From the latter, all the participants were from the island of Majorca and all but one came from there by car! For the sake of a sustainable subject, we wanted all transport to happen in a "green" way, and with the exception of one participant we managed to do so (he arrived in Slovenia by plane)! Soup! In the exchange itself, we explored 4 dimensions of sustainability: economic, social, cultural and ecological. We learned all this through various activities (dance, discussion, drawing, creation, role-playing, and much more).

One part of the time was also devoted to more practical work, namely the production of raised shafts, the coating of wooden windows with oil, the transplantation of seedlings, the production of vegetable milk, the baking of bread and something more to find.

In addition to all this, the programme also had a daily reflection, which occurred mostly in the national groups. Somewhere in the middle was the time for a field trip to the Veles farm, where participants could see various permaculture elements in practice and learn the story of the farm itself. As i said, we were on Frankolovo, housed in an extremely beautiful place of the Metta Society, and we were all impressed by the house built of natural materials and a huge barn that gave us sanctuary. Also in terms of food, it was perfectly taken care of both from the point of view of the quality of the ingredients and from the point of view of cooking, which was simply top-notch and we couldn't wait every day for the flavours to come to us.

Thank you!

Everything beautiful is over once, and those eight days have passed in no time. The time has come to say goodbye, and we have broken up with new acquaintances, ideas, experiences, stories, feelings and also with the awareness that we can do a lot of good regardless of the "size" of actions. It also thanks the Partner Organisations for Cooperation, the European Union for Erasmus+ funds and the national agency MOVIT for trusting the project and answering all the vague questions.
