Open Your Heart, Unleash Your Potential
In mid-July the international youth exchange Open your Heart, Unleash your Potential finally began. This project was designed to support young people to find their unique role in the world. It brought together 26 highly motivated participants from Slovenia, Italy, Estonia and Germany. Within the exchange, we have experienced an inspiring, complementary set of workshops to explore ourselves and our relation to the group. We started with the "Hero's Journey", a holistic, individual, in-depth research process aimed to reveal our »call« as our life vision. Then we placed our personal stories into the broader context of a group or community that we are a part of. We practiced non-violent communication, built a community, raised awareness of group dynamics and worked on collective intelligence. We've been exploring our personal limits, recognizing patterns, practicing self-awareness and being present. Together we've entered the "Mandala of Truth" to share our deepest emotions, and experienced rebirth in the purifying ritual of Native American sweat lodge. We grew and learned through play, storytelling and artistic expression.
In this 9-day youth exchange the participants went through a whole-person learning experience, integrating methods that work on intellectual, emotional and physical levels through a carefully designed, profound, individual and community-based process. Through it, they:
- discovered their call and found courage to follow it;
- learned how to successfully enter group processes and how to create stable and efficient support teams;
- mastered skills of non-violent communication that enable constructive intercultural dialogue;
- gained encouragement to active social participation and a meaningful engagement in the world.
All this created numerous benefits and long-term positive effects, as the youth became initiators of new projects, and are actively involved in building a democratic, inclusive, just, creative and sustainable society.
